Rudolf Nordström Natt ute, Sol i Sinne

November 30 — January 4, 2024

About

In Rudolf Nordström’s second solo exhibition at CFHILL, he brings forth a collection of newly produced artworks that vividly depict scenes from the Nordic landscape. Many of these scenes draw inspiration from Gotland, where the artist resides. Since his gallery debut at CFHILL last year, Nordström’s artistic journey has extended to international platforms, including exhibitions at Bo Bjerggaard in Denmark and a recent artist residency at KaviarFactory in Norway.

Despite his youth, Nordström has garnered critical acclaim as a skilled landscape painter, drawing influences from historical masters like Paul Cézanne, Camille Pissarro, Carl Fredrik Hill, and Vincent van Gogh. Simultaneously, his work resonates with contemporary artists like Amy Bennett, Andreas Eriksson, Alex Katz, and Anselm Kiefer. Nordström’s works, often depicting landscapes without human influences, could be considered as a sort of narrative, or historical commentary, on the evolvement of landscape painting.

As a plein air painter, Nordström’s artistic explorations are challenging, conducted under unpredictable weather conditions and fleeting light. He travels to places where his predecessors in the genre are reported to have worked, documenting, and re-reading the landscape through his own lens. This repetition is significant in his artistry, and it is as though he is on a perpetual drive to illustrate the forces of nature bound to each moment and each place he visits.

In Natt ute, Sol i Sinne, Nordström’s evocative renditions of the landscape invites viewers to deepen their connection with the natural beauty that surrounds us in the Nordic region.
