About
We are happy to welcome back New York-based Jeremy Lawson for his second solo exhibition at CFHILL. Sought Cause presents 15 works in various sizes created simultaneously over the course of 10 months, carrying the artist’s distinct energy.
Initially a conceptual artist, Lawson has fully dedicated his practice to abstract painting for the last few years after finishing his MFA in 2021. Inspired by the bold and luminous colors in the last exhibitions of Howard Hodgkin, Pablo Picasso and Claude Monet, Lawson’s slow way of painting results in compositions that are just as striking visually at first glance as when they are viewed up close. Using only his hands and paper pallets to apply oil paint, he achieves depth and texture that give another dimension of complexity to his paintings. Whether small or monumental in size, Lawson has established a dynamic aesthetic that is instantly recognizable.
Jeremy Lawson (b. 1980, Warren, PA) received a BFA from Syracuse University in 2003, and an MFA from Hunter College in 2021. In 2022, Lawson was a recipient of the prestigious Rema Hort Mann Foundation Emerging Artist Grant. Most recently, his work has been exhibited at Harper’s, Los Angeles and East Hampton (2023 and 2022); Felix Art Fair, Los Angeles (2023); Zona Maco, Mexico City (2023); CFHILL, Stockholm (2022); Jack Shainman Gallery, New York (2022); Hauser & Wirth, New York (2021); and Kristen Lorello, New York (2019). Lawson currently lives and works in New York City.
