Ylva Snöfrid

Biography

In 2017, during an eight-hour transmutation ritual*, Ylva and her mirror twin Snöfrid were united into a single entity; the human being and the artistic practice merged into Ylva Snöfrid. In her search for artistic freedom and independence, she has pushed the boundaries of painting, making it her home at large; within this ritualized world, everything revolves around painting, exposed to daily life, and the forces of nature and the universe.

Ylva Snöfrid has lived and worked in New York City, Berlin, Athens, and Stockholm. She has created numerous large-scale site-specific works, including for the Istanbul Biennial, Performa New York, Palais de Tokyo, Swiss Institute New York, Institut Suédois, Bonniers Konsthall, Kunsthal Charlottenborg, and Liljevalchs konsthall.
